I press the play button, and the splash screen shows then it goes away and the game does not proceed. This has happened before and magically fixed itself, giving me all sorts of "fixes" to try is pointless if it magically fixes it's self. So, why not "test" it and make sure you don't have to do magic after the fact and reduce the frustration.
