I had this sort of thing happen to me once in retail 3.0 as well (only lost some crops so it wasn't a big deal). Never got an explanation for it so I'm interested in what happened here.

You can have up to 9 characters after using character expansion slot items. Keep in mind that for some reason, the character expansion slot items are no longer tradeable as of 3.0.

I know that in newbie zones I see a lot of potatoes planted in the Blue Salt public farms, and I see a lot of low levels actually watching cutscenes, so I can believe that population may be booming, it just may not be the endgame-pvp minded population that many would like to see.
