Character Slot Expansion

I noticed that in the cash shop, we can buy a Character Slot Expansion. Does this mean we can have more than 6 characters? I'd hate to buy the expansion just to find out I can't use it because 6 is the maximum which is what we are allowed without buying one.

You can have up to 9 characters after using character expansion slot items.

Keep in mind that for some reason, the character expansion slot items are no longer tradeable as of 3.0.
